Jan Hugo was an explorer and travelled the world. He had a passion for castles. The farmer fell in love with a castle he saw in Bavaria, Europe and decided to build a replica of this castle on his farm, Van Aswegenfontein in the Karoo. Because Jan Hugo was an adventurer there was a lack of drawing paper and he made a few sketches on a box 30 Lexington cigarettes.
Back in the Karoo, together with his wife and two workers, they built this castle.
Hentie Wiese bought this farm in 1981. July 1991 Dries, the oldest son, received the farm and successfully developed it to where it is today.
